Shimizu (Mt. Fuji), Japan Photo Gallery
The cute Shimizu port area. On the right side of the photo is an old loader that they restored for historical purposes.
Captain Kjell visiting with some local Japanese students.
Our beautiful ship in the harbor.
Miho no Matsubara (Miho Pine Forest). It was a nice walk through the pine woods to the beach.
A cool tree.
Miho no Matsubara Beach, a black beach, with a hint of Mount Fuji in the left corner.
Brian looks so little down there on the beach.
This driftwood brought memories of my mom who loved finding driftwood to take home to her gardens.
Now a good view of Mount Fuji, an active volcano and rising to 12,388 feet, the tallest peak in Japan.
I was told that these pine trees are nicknamed candelabra pines. It does look like candles sticking uo.
One of the little streets that we wondered through getting to the ferry. This photo doesn't show it, but we enjoyed the many gardens and flowers that we walked by.
Beautiful flowers along our walk.
The flowers of Shimizu-Azelia. I had never seen a striped one before.
Beach Pea.
Small-leaf Spiderwort.
More Azelia.
Wildflower Poppy.
Persian Buttercup.
I was surprised by the "Welcome to my garden" rock in this Japanese neighborhood that we walked through, but I did enjoy the garden.
I think this is a marsh-harrier, but not sure. It was a big bird and we saw it attack a smaller bird.
This harbor is great for windsurfing.
We took the ferry from the area where the beach was back to the port area. We got that tip from some fellow cruisers.
We met Neasa and her family on the ferry. She is from Ireland, but now lives at her winery in France with her French husband. They were Doug and Margaret's ship neighbors on this leg of the cruise.
We were blessed with a day that you could see Mount Fuji at this time of year. We were told by a local that there was no visibility the day before and it was forecast to rain the next day.
The local Japanese people were so friendly and kind here in Shimizu. Many were wearing tags that said "Volunteer Guide. Ask me a question." These came to wave goodbye to us. They definitely made us feel very special.
More Japanese waving goodbye to us.
Such a cute port town.
Mount Fuji from the ship as we sail away.
We loved seeing all of these mountain layers. It reminded me of the Smoky Mountains in the US.
