Conversano, Italy Photo Gallery
Looking down the street our VRBO was on.
When we arrived in Conversano on Sunday afternoon there was no sign of life until this walk/race for young and old at 7pm.
The priest read scripture and blessed the race beforehand and all of them were starting to make the sign of the cross.
Balconies decorated with flowers were seen all over the city.
A fountain within the old city still being used to this day.
One of the old city gates.
The Castle of Conversano was built by the Norman Goffredo Altavilla round about the year 1000, using as foundation in some parts, the magalithic walls of the ancient peucetian centre dated back to the 6th/4th cent. B.C.
On another side of the castle-Between the 15th and 17th cent. a series of interventions changed the castle from a military fortress into an exclusive residence of the Acquaviva d’Aragona family.
Piazza Conciliazione near the castle.
Villa Garibaldi Park near the castle.
Flamingos in the garden.
Some art of the city, lighted jellyfish.
I loved this city! It was non-touristy and seemed so happy and safe.
The Toll Gate, an ancient gate of the medieval city.
More art decorating a balcony.
Lighted roses decorate this church.
The old city gate of blue umbrellas, now at night and lit up.
An amazing door in Conversano!
The bell tower of San Benedetto. We loved hearing all the bells ringing in the city to tell us the time.
Inside Monastero di San Benedetto, a beautiful church. It seemed like there was a church every few feet that you took.
One of the paintings inside the church.
Just a beautiful building in the old city.
I was getting ready to take a photo of this artsy bench when 3 girls came and sat down, so now they are in the photo, too.
At il Guillare Spaghetteria with the castle in the background where we ate some delicious but different spaghetti.
I love walking these old city streets!
They were just beautiful!
An old fountain in s little square near our VRBO.
From our terrace we could see this church with this angel on the corner.
Looking down from our terrace on the piazza where the trees are very thick and cut like shrubs (in the US), but give great shade to those who sit under them.
I bought a ceramic Christmas ornament from Arte in Corte. This is Marilyn Cerri, the artist who made and handpainted it.
We saw these ceramic pieces all over Conversano and are the symbol of a blooming flower and are a sign of good fortune, also made by Marilyn.
Another local artist in his studio that I met while exploring this city.
