What does trullo mean in Italian?
a round stone building made with conical roof and without mortar found in southern Italy and especially in Apulia.
The trullo is usually circular and the interior spaces are distributed around the central compartment. The thickness of the walls and the few windows ensure an optimal thermal balance, warmth in winter and cool in summer.
These structures, dating from as early as the mid-14th century, characteristically feature pyramidal, domed, or conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs.
There are many theories behind the origin of the design. One of the more popular theories is that due to high taxation on property, the people of Apulia built dry stone wall constructions so that they could be dismantled quickly when tax inspectors were in the area.
There are more than 1,500 trulli houses in Aberobello.
These trulli have been combined into one modern living structure.
St. Antony's Church is a greek cross shaped church unique because it's entirely made up of trulli.
Many homes had Christian Symbols: Including crosses or fish often symbolize protection and faith, a reflection of the deep-rooted Christian heritage in the region.
The sun was also a Christian symbol. Alll the different symbols were often seen as protective or spiritual symbols across various cultures.
Brian and Doug rested and got a drink while Margaret and I explored and took more photos.
These are the three different pastas that were in one of my dinner dishes that I have never seen before.
The flowers were beautiful on this trullo home.

This house was called the siamese twin trulli.
This house was quite pretty.
Trulli homes in the countryside, also called beehive houses, are more primitive and probably how they all looked in the beginning.
