Monaco Photo Gallery
As we walk out of the train station we can tell we are in a place like never before. Marble surrounds us and you can tell that it's one of the most expensive places in the world.. It's also home to some of the wealthiest.
On our walk up to the palace.
A light on the palace walls.
The view of the harbor from up near the palace.
The old of Monaco with the new.
The palace guard.
Guards stationed at the front of the palace.
We toured the palace and it was beautiful, so I have many photos of it. This is the Antichambre Verte with paintings of some of the ancestors.
Legend has it that one François Grimaldi managed to enter the fortress, with weapons hidden beneath his monk’s robes. Thanks to this ruse and “the help of God”, he seized the castle, which was supposed to be impregnable. This myth and his trickery are represented today in the figures on the coat of arms of Monaco.
Chambre d'Europe- The painting in the left corner is The Israelites in the Desert by Jacopo Bassano.
I admit that I am a Grace Kelly fan, so I enjoyed the things of her that I saw here.
Salle du Trône-The Throne Room-Restoration to the ceiling in 1953 revealed a superb iconography inspired by Homer’s Odyssey. 68 years ago Grace Kelly and Prime Rainier III had the civil marriage ceremony here.

The huge library.
The chapel door-Brian and I liked the details of the crosses on the door.
There was a room with some portraits of the royal family one previous generation.

This is the outside window of the chapel from the courtyard.
Prince Louis I had this stairway built in the courtyard, a majestic horseshoe staircase in the Renaissance style.
The Monaco Cathedral.
This is inside the church where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III had their religious wedding ceremony.
This is also where Princess Grace is burried.
Another harbor on the other side of "The Rock." The palace area in Monaco is called "The Rock."

Monte Carlo Casino-Until recently, this has been the primary source of income for the House of Grimaldi and the Monegasque economy.

Another photo of the entrance.
I snuck a photo of the Monte Carlo Casino ceiling. You were not allowed to take photos inside the casino, but it was very lavishly decorated.
Very fancy and expensive cars, like a Ferrari and Bentley, were sitting in front of the casino.
This Bugatti Chiron was one of my favorites.
I'd never seen a purple Lamborghini before.
We had a delicious lunch here at Rampoldi.

Yachts up close in the harbor, some were quite big!
St Devote Chapel-It was built in the hollow of the "Vallon des Gaumates", where during the 4th century a frail boat carrying Sainte Dévote's remains ran aground at its entrance. We passed this on our climb to the train station.
