Olden, Norway Photo Gallery
We started our day here very early in Ivvikfjorden, one of the best-known fjords in Norway. Now I know why it earned its unofficial title of ‘Mother Nature’s Wonderland.'
I took so many photos here because the scenery was so beautiful and the reflections in the water were so perfect!
Passing a village on the fjord.
This is where I spent a lot of time taking photos traveling through the fjord, the helipad, which was a great spot on the ship.
As we traveled the fjord the fog kept moving in and out. It was so ethereal!
This fjord was one of the most beautiful spots of the whole cruise! No words are needed the rest of the fjord.
The clouds and fog are so dramatic here!
A home and buildings with grass roofs-The roofs offer places for birds to nest and insects to breed. The vegetation on these roofs also helps to soak up rainwater, and may even reduce annual runoff by 40 to 90 percent.
Just spectacular!
So gorgeous!
We've arrived at Olden, which lies in the valley.
Looking uo the mountain where the cable car will take us.
Getting ready to ride in the Loen Skylift Cable Car to the top of Mount Hoven. It's one of the steepest cable cars in the world and will lift you from the fjord to 3317 feet
Our ship looks like a tiny toy from this view. The Serenade is the smaller ship.
The view of Lake Lovatnet, a beautiful turquoise glacier-fed lake.
Ice at the top of Skåla, this mountain is the highest in Norway with foot in the fjord.
The Kjenndalen Glacier is located Jostedalsbreen National Park. It is an arm of the largest glacier in Europe, the Jostedal Glacier.

Part of the village of Loen located between the lake Lovatnet and the Nordfjorden, with the Loelva river running through.
At the top of the mountain, is a 16.4 ft-high horseshoe. Hoven (or “hoof”) mountain is named for Sleipner, the steed of the god Odin in Norse mythology. It is said that Sleipner kicked one of his hooves into the mountain at Loen, leaving the characteristic hole.
A pond up on Mount Hoven.
Interesting rocks on Mount Hoven.
I loved our time up on Mount Hoven and the gorgeous views of the fjord!
Looking farther down the fjord, just stunning!
Just another beautiful view of Lake Lovatnet, Loen, Jostedalsbreen National Park, and the fjord.
A close-up of Loen showing the milky glacier water mixing into the fjord.
I had this delicious whipped cream-topped hot chocolate up on the mountain while enjoying the views from Hoven Bar.
The village of Loen.
Looking up Loelva river to the Hotel Alexandra in Loen.
Boathouses in Olden. From this point onward we were exploring in the rain.
It's interesting to see a grass roof. Until I was better informed, I just thought these were very old cabins, but there's usefulness for these grass roofs.
Old Olden Church is a wooden cruciform church The church was built in 1759 and has a seating capacity of 250. The old Olden church is one of only two remaining 18th-century churches in the whole county
The altarpiece from 1772 has a magnificent framework with double sets of columns, combining canvas paintings and wooden sculptures.
The oldest objects in the church are some of the doors in the in-built permanent pews, which date back to 1746. Notice the hat pegs on top of the men's pews made from young birch tops.
The pews are built in such a way that the floor leading up to the chancel has the form of Christ's cross, the Latin cross
This shows the wooden peg construction of the old pews.
The cemetery at the Old Olden Church. These grave markers are very nice.

A different kind of slate roof.
A tiny cabin with some tall mountains and a glimpse of a waterfall.
More Norwegian houses.
Olden New Church-Constructed in 1934 with an interesting red painted exterior.
The interior of the new church is unpainted, but has a dark varnish. There are interesting chandeliers and altarpieces here.
